IT Seminar Project Discussion

Our team decided a few weeks back that we were going to investigate wikis for our research papers. We have been discussing this assignment offline but we decided we wanted to actually catalog some of our discussions so that we would have them for references. The first item to discuss is to decide exactly how we are going to partition the work (ie. how are we going to break the topic of wikis into three distinct topics). I think one potential idea is to investigate the use of wikis in the workplace. What do you guys think? Post comments!

I think the use of Wikis in the workplace is a good idea, some other potential ideas would be the issues that are holding wikis back (ie. anyone can post, isit true?, security, etc). Another one may be the underlying structure of wikis, how do they work? Also, maybe the history of wikis, why were they started? who came up with this idea? Was it supposed to be something else that just evolved into this great tool? Those are a few ideas that I cane up with, let me know what you think. Maybe we can gather like 5 or 6 good ideas and then take a vote on the top 3.

Dave that sounds pretty good. I think a discussion on the applicability of wikis in corporations could lead to some interesting discussion. Especially considering the push Lockheed made for wikis and the difficulty there has been on that front. Melissa what do you think?

I would agree with wiki's in the workplace, the back end of wikis... and I was thinking of either the history of Wiki's or how people use wiki's (some people i know do "wiki racing, research projects, wiki gardening) I'm open to whatever, I would prefer doing how people use wikis....i'm off to Albuquerque tomorrow so I'll be checking emails sporadically. Let me know via email what I should be working on in both this class and DB class...
see ya!

So for record keeping purposes here is what we came up with:

Melissa is going to work on wikis in the workplace
Dave is going to discuss the history of wikis
Mike is going to discuss the technology involved with wikis

This gives our group a great coverage of the topic and will allow us to present some really interesting material. Good work team. Lets keep it up.
